Sonic Races Around the World in New Campaign

SEGA and the Sonic Team are unleashing a new Sonic brand campaign for this year to celebrate the Blue Blur and his penchant for being the fastest hedgehog around. Following last year’s celebration of Shadow the Hedgehog with the Fearless: Year of Shadow campaign, this year’s celebration is the Racing Around the World campaign. The campaign’s kickoff starts with a partnership with Red Bull’s speed stunt driver Brandon Semenuk, who is a three-time American Rally Association National Champion and five-time Red Bull Rampage Champion. The team has created an action-packed stunt video to get fans excited for the campaign and features Easter eggs from the upcoming game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Brandon Semenuk shares his thoughts on being a part of the new brand campaign: “Before I ever sat in a real race car, I was playing Sonic the Hedgehog, racing games, really anything with speed. That was my intro to racing. It all started with pixels and a controller, but the obsession with going fast was real from day one. Getting to work with SEGA on this project was full circle — bringing racing into more people’s hands the same way it started for me.” Marcella Churchill, Vice President of SEGA/ATLUS Brand Marketing, adds: “The Racing Around the World fan celebration embodies everything fans love about Sonic from his superfast speed, bold attitude, and ability to inspire fans to push their limits. Our partnership with Red Bull delivers a thrilling stunt racing film that brings key elements from the Sonic universe to life for fans worldwide. We hope it brings fans together and allows them to experience the excitement of the Sonic Racing universe like never before.” RELATED JAKKS Pacific Unites DC Comics and Sonic the Hedgehog in the Toy Aisle Fans can also look forward to racing-themed partnerships, merchandise, mobile game events, and more this year. U.S. Gamers Hit Pause on Spending as Sales Decline

According to a report from Circana, U.S. video game hardware, content, and accessories sales fell 6% last month compared to a year ago, bringing the February total to $4.5 billion. Year-to-date spending has reached $9.0 billion, an 11% decline from the same period last year. While the industry overall declined, separate brands saw increases in their products. Monster Hunter: Wilds was the best-selling video game of February and instantly became the best-selling title of 2025 thus far. Monster Hunter: Wilds was the best-selling game of February. | Source: Monster Hunter: Wilds Other new releases at the top of the chart include Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, and PGA Tour 2K25. Regarding mobile content, Sensor Tower reports that the top game is still Monopoly Go!, followed by Royal Match, Last War: Survival, Roblox, Candy Crush Saga, Whiteout Survival, Pokémon TCG Pocket, Township, Coin Master, and Pokémon GO. “The highlight of this month is once again Last War: Survival, which has overtaken Roblox for the first time in monthly US mobile gaming spend,” says Samuel Aune of Sensor Tower. “Also of note are the two Pokémon games: Pokémon TCG Pocket and Pokémon GO. This is the first time that two games with the same IP (though different publishers) have made this list at the same time, an impressive feat,” says Aune. Looking at the categories individually, video game content spending fell 4% compared to last year, bringing it to $4.0 billion. The growth in non-mobile subscriptions was present with a 9% increase, but it was not enough to offset the decline in mobile spending (-4%), full game, and add-on content for consoles (-11%), and spending across PC, cloud, and non-console VR (-4%). Video game hardware sales dropped 25% compared to last February to $256 million, the lowest February total since 2020. PlayStation 5 was once again the best-selling platform across units and dollars.
